Yes, all patients seeking cosmetic surgery from Dr Lim must have a referral, preferable from your usual general practitioner or if that is not possible, from another general practitioner or other specialist medical practitioner. You may be eligible for a rebate from Medicare for some non cosmetic consultations.

Please arrive 15 minutes early to your first appointment to complete registration paperwork. Your first consultation with Dr Lim will take around 45 minutes and you are most welcome to bring a support person with you. Due to social distancing measures as a result of COVID-19, the support person may not be able to enter the rooms (depending on the number of persons in the rooms at that particular time).

Dr Lim will take the time to discuss with you the outcome you wish to achieve, and any other issues related to the appearance of your body that you feel are important to you. Dr Lim will explain the risks and methods of surgery and a few measurements and photographs will be taken to plan your procedure.

Please come to the consultation prepared to discuss your medical history. This will include information about any medical or mental health conditions you have, medications you are currently taking, allergies you have, other medical treatments you have received and any previous surgery you have had.

You will be given a written quotation and information to take home to read. A second consultation, at no extra cost, is usually required if you wish to proceed with surgery.

New medical (non-cosmetic) patients: $230
New cosmetic patients: $360

For a cosmetic consult, a deposit of $160 is required when making the appointment. The remaining $200 to pay on the day of consult.

Our team will do their best to fit you in for a consultation as soon as possible. Most patients are able to see Dr Lim within two to four weeks.

My Klinik Castle Hill: Free parking is available onsite via Barwell Avenue or under the building via Cecil Avenue. There is also parking across the road at Dan Murphy’s and McDonald’s.

Plastic surgery is best suited for patients in good physical and mental health who have realistic expectations about the outcome of the procedure. Dr Lim will assess your personal situation and your desired result in order to develop a treatment plan that is right for you.

Any type of surgery has potential risks. Dr Lim will be sure to discuss all possible risks and complications for your procedure with you during the consultation process.

Dr Lim performs all surgeries at fully accredited hospitals — Lakeview Private Hospital and Westmead Private Hospital. Some procedures such as minor skin excisions, hair restoration and skin treatments can be performed in the My Klinik medical suites.

Scars are inevitable whenever an incision is made. As a skilled and experienced surgeon, Dr Lim is experienced in well-placed incisions and meticulous sutures, so scars will typically fade over time. It is important to remember that everyone heals differently, and scars can be unpredictable. Dr Lim will always do his best to minimise scarring and will discuss all possible outcomes with you before your surgery.

As these terms are often used interchangeably, they can be misunderstood. Cosmetic surgery is a type of plastic surgery, aimed at enhancing, reshaping or creating an aesthetic result. Plastic surgery also includes reconstructive procedures that treat parts of the body that have been affected by illness or accident.

In Australia, a doctor must be trained through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) to qualify as a specialist plastic surgeon. This involves a minimum of eight years on top of their medical degree and once completed, the doctor achieves the qualification title — FRACS (Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons). Only qualified specialist plastic surgeons that have trained through RACS can become a member of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).

Doctors who describe themselves as cosmetic surgeons are medically trained, but not necessarily surgically trained as specialists. Plastic surgeons not only have a more comprehensive view of the human body, but they specialise in an extensive range of surgical techniques and innovative solutions for complicated reconstructive problems. Plastic surgeons are the pioneers and leaders in both cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.

Getting surgery done overseas is often cheaper than undertaking the procedure here in Australia, but it is important to factor in all of the risks and costs. When considering the added costs of flights, accommodation, additional medical fees before or after your surgery, and the cost of follow-up care once you are home, your final bill could end being the same or more than what you’d pay in Australia. You should also be aware that standard travel insurance and Australian private health insurance won’t cover issues that arise from overseas procedures.

While actual data on the quality of care in medical tourism is difficult to collect from reliable sources, a large number of ‘fix-up’ treatments are recorded from patients returning home. As with any overseas travel, you will need to consider your legal rights in your destination and the prevalence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria and infection.

In Australia, you can be assured that your specialist plastic surgeon has trained through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) and meets the requirements of this country’s strict health and safety guidelines. There are also the added benefits of being able to recover in your own home, having access to routine follow-up care and being close to your doctor should any unexpected issues occur.

No, you won’t be able to drive for at least 24 hours after surgery. You will need someone to drive you home and stay with you for the first day of your recovery. Depending on the procedure, you may not be able to drive for a couple of days. Patients who have minor local anaesthetic procedures in the My Klinik medical suites will be able to drive themselves.

Dr Lim will prescribe you with pain relief medication and antibiotics while you are in hospital and for your continued care once you return home. It is crucial that you finish the course of antibiotics you are prescribed.

The amount of pain you feel after surgery varies from person to person. If you are concerned about the amount of pain you are in, or you feel you cannot control the pain, you should inform the nursing staff while in hospital, or call My Klinik if you are at home.

Depending on the procedure, you may be provided a surgical compression garment to help reduce bruising and excessive swelling. Dr Lim will discuss all post-operative requirements with you during the consultation period and will advise you on how long you will need to wear the garment after surgery. This can be required for a few weeks.

Everyone is different, so recovery periods vary from person to person and depend on the kind of surgery you have. Generally, you’ll be advised to avoid exercise for at least two weeks and may need to take this time off work. You’ll also need to take care of the surgical site and monitor your lifestyle to suit.

Returning to work will depend on the demands of your job — you may be able to return to light work within a couple of weeks. Dr Lim will discuss your individual situation with you before and after your surgery.

My Klinik staff will stay in touch with you after your procedure, monitor your progress and answer any questions or concerns as they arise.

You’ll have regular reviews with Dr Lim as you recover and beyond. We see most patients one week, three weeks, one month and three months after surgery. Depending on the procedure and your progress, we may see you again six months and one year after your surgery.
